Descriptions

Basic Statement

A simple description follows the formula: Adjective + Ang Phrase. The "ang phrase" is the thing you're describing.

"The flower is white." — "Puti ang bulak." (white = puti; flower = bulak)

You can see in the example above that the description (white) comes before the thing it describes (flower).

You can do this with any Ang phrase, including pronouns and people's names.

"The dog is fast." — "Dasig ang ido." (dog = ido; fast = dasig)
"Jim is fast." — "Dasig si Jim."
"You guys are fast." — "Dasig kamo."

In the first sentence, "the dog" is the Ang phrase. In the second example, "Jim" is the Ang phrase, because "si" functions like "ang" for names. In the third example, "kamo" is the ang phrase because it's in ang form.

Emphasizing

You can add the word "gid" after an adjective to emphasize it. It's like saying, "very." For example, "maayo" means "good." "Maayo gid," would be like "very good" or "great."

The sun is really hot! — "Init gid ang adlaw!" (hot = init; sun = adlaw)

Question Form

To put this in question form, you can add the word "bala." This is optional.

"The flower is white." — "Puti ang bulak." (white = puti; flower = bulak)
"Is the flower white?" — "Puti bala ang bulak?"
