Multifunction Words

Hiligaynon words can be quite flexible. There are words—like in English—that can be used as multiple parts of speech (noun/verb/adjective).

sabat - answer (noun)
sabat - answer (verb)

pamangkot - question (noun)
pamangkot - ask (verb)

The language can be especially flexible in using words as verbs.

ano - what
    "What are you doing?" — "Nagaano kamo?"
    "What are we going to do?" — "Magano kita?"

kumusta - how are you
    "He greeted me." — "Nagkamusta siya sa akon."

oo - yes
    "He said yes." — "Nag-oo siya."

palihog - please
    "Can I ask you to..." — "Pwede ko kapalihog sa imo nga..."
    "Can I borrow a book?" — "Pwede ko kapalihog sang libro?"
